Theressa Hackett, "Landmark to Landmark," 1991

Comprising 5 10-foot tall and 2 7-foot tall paintings, Teri's first exhibition remains one of the gallery's most memorable.
She produced these labor-intensive paintings by first covering house siding with paper texts and then drilling holes, painting with oil, layering encaustic and making more marks. She made them in the living room of her childhood home, while listening to news coverage of the first Gulf War. The paintings' physical construction mirrored the war's aggression, yet their overall impact was more lyrical than violent.
