Ingrid Eriksson, "Goal-Score," 1997/2000
I first experienced this interactive piece at Richard Telles Fine Art in Los Angeles, where in 1994 the Swedish team placed third in the FIFA World Cup (the video playing on the TV to the left). For "Goal-Score," Ingrid drew a soccer net on the wall and invited people to kick odd balls from her ball collection "into the net."
During the opening, an attendant approached me to alert me that the ceiling tiles had been kicked out of place. Asking what he should do, I told him to find Ingrid who would no doubt want to take a picture. Fortunately, only folding chairs were stored behind the wall, which was eventually shot through with a big hole.
