Dan Perjovschi (with Nedko Solakov), "Back to Back (New York)," 2006
David Schafer, "Richard Serra: The Signature Series," 2011
For Back to Back (New York)(2006), two of the world’s most hilarious and poignant renderers created a free-standing drawing bearing their comical antics. Romanian Dan’s signature caricature commentaries appear outside, while Bulgarian Nedko’s intimate notations occur inside. Good friends in real life, this drawing doubles as an exhibitional prank that facilitated a career “boost,” when the one shared his New York City solo exhibition opportunity with the other who is unknown here, though renowned in Europe.
David's poster commemorates his installing a yellow, neon “Richard Serra” autograph in the window, prompting passerbys to inquire whether the Contemporary is having a Richard Serra exhibition. But of course, the artwork was David’s not Richard’s.
