Winifred Lutz, "Sorting the Residue of Years," months later

For this incredibly labor- and time-intensive project, Winifred and several paid collaborators transformed 16 years of the tennis court's accumulated layers (moss, fallen limbs, sticks and debris)into a dynamic garden. Not only did these natural objects change drastically over time, but it proved a challenge to prevent Robins (in search of worms) from disturbing the moss circle. If I remember right, she sprayed fox pee to ward off birds. Between April and October, gardeners maintained the site to ensure its overall sense of order, even as each form continued to double in size.
